Alfred Stieglitz Documentary

Hi everyone, thanks for following the blog this far. It’s much appreciated! Here’s an excellent documentary on Alfred Stieglitz and how to go against the mainstream to create art that is avant garde. Remember, you can be avant garde, and still incorporate design techniques to communicate your visual message. No need to throw away a proven method to create your own masterpiece….just saying.
Stieglitz, always craving for the new, was quoted alround 1910 saying “It is high time that the stupidity and sham in pictorial photography be struck a solarplexus blow.” and “Claims of art won’t do. Let the photographer make a perfect photograph. And if he happens to be a lover of perfection and a seer, the resulting photograph will be straight and beautiful – a true photograph.”
Here’s a portrait of Stiegletz as well as some of his photography.
Georgia O’keeffe is a painter he became very intimate with. In the above video it will explain how they met and their relationship. The photo below was one of many by Stiegletz and gained a lot of public attention. Some would even see her paintings as being erotic in a sense.
This is one of her very colorful paintings.
Stiegletz had many disciples he worked with. Some of them turned against him, but all of them were very talented.
Hopefully this inspires you to think outside of the box, create some original art, as well as maintain the valuable techniques of design.
