The complete geometric toolkit: 240 master grids and 1,600+ sorted files for every device, camera, and canvas.
Dynamic Symmetry is far more than just lines drawn across an image. It is the unbreakable geometric foundation of masterful composition—a trade secret that has been kept out of standard photography and art school curricula for generations.
While basic grid tools like the “rule of thirds” offer zero structural support as your skill advances, dynamic symmetry gives you a permanent, scalable framework to organize visual weight, create rhythmic movement, and establish visual clarity.

The Dynamic Symmetry Grid Package is your complete hands-on execution toolkit.
Whether you are composing a photo on-location, laying out a painting on a light pad, or analyzing masterworks in Photoshop and Lightroom, this package gives you 240 unique dynamic symmetry grids, diagonal gauges, and specialized overlay files tailored to your exact medium and gear.
If you spend years relying on guesswork or basic grid lines on your camera screen, you’re going to continually fall into the trap of generically plotting everything you see on a third. You need a more advanced grid to help you organize the composition and promote unity, movement, strength and rhythm.
Using real geometric tools in your daily workflow replaces the typical boring scenes with a new confident approach. You stop asking, “Where should I place my subject?” and start designing with geometric intent.
Why I Taped a $1 Transparency Sheet
to My $2,000 Camera
When I was studying under Myron Barnstone, he showed us how master painters used dynamic symmetry grids to analyze completed works. But as a photographer, I didn’t just want to analyze masterworks after the fact—I wanted a tool I could use in the field, right through my viewfinder and on my camera screen.
I started obsessing over a simple question: How can I get these geometric armatures onto my LCD screen while I’m shooting?
My mind went back to my time working at OfficeMax, and it clicked: transparency film. I could print dynamic grids onto clear sheets, cut them to size, and affix them directly over my camera screen.
At first, a voice in my head hesitated: “Is this ridiculous? Do I really want to tape a piece of plastic to my expensive camera?”
Then I asked myself a harder question: “Do I want to keep guessing and plotting along with the ‘rule of thirds,’ or do I want to master true composition?” The perfectionist in me wanted to lock in geometry in-camera. So, I taped the transparency sheet to my camera and headed out to shoot.
Learning How the Tool Actually Works
At first, I moved slowly. I focused entirely on locking onto diagonals, but I still had that classic beginner doubt: “Where exactly do I put my subject? Should they go on this intersection, or that one?”
That’s when I had my second big breakthrough: The grid doesn’t exist in a vacuum—it responds to the background.
It didn’t matter how perfectly I aligned a model on a diagonal armature if there was a pole sticking out of her head or a cluttered background ruining figure-ground separation. I realized I had to adjust my physical position first to clean up the background, align the subject, and then match the model’s pose to the grid’s diagonal paths.
Once I saw that, everything changed. I started spotting diagonal paths in trees, architecture, and shadows, lining them up with my grid overlay, and posing subjects along those same angles to create seamless visual rhythm.
That simple piece of tape on my camera screen transformed my artistic eye forever.
I created this complete Dynamic Symmetry Grid Package so you don’t have to mess around with DIY plastic sheets or trial-and-error guesswork. You get instant, precision-formatted digital overlays ready to print for every camera, phone, tablet, and software program you use.
